I loved the first book of this series but I didn't really like the second book, actually I didn't finish it but I plan too.

It's been a while since I read the first two books so I don't remember as much of them as I do the third, but I really loved the third. Mainly because there is a lot of Simon POV and he gets really awesome mid-second book (I think... meh, I may have to go back and re-read the first two now), but by the third I liked him better than Clary. And I think they show angles of Isabel that paint her in a less shallow light. And the home of the shadowhunters is nicely written.

Anyway, I'd say try and stick it out through the rest of the second book and the first few chapters of the third. It gets better when they're all in the City of Glass. I stop halfway through a lot of books when they get annoying or are just not what I'm looking for at the moment and come back to them later, too. Happy reading! :)
