In professional wrestling, kayfabe (pronounced KAY-fayb; IPA: ['keɪfeɪb]) refers to the portrayal of events within the industry as real, that is the portrayal of professional wrestling as not staged or worked. Damn. I wish my husband's great-grandpa (Coney Island boardwalk wrestler back in the early 1900s during the off-season for the circus, in which he was also an acrobat) was still alive. Maybe hubby's godfather (great-uncle) has some insight.
