Santa Winchester and the Tall Elf

Waking up under the same roof as her mother is something Jo hasn't done in almost two years. The events of the previous week are settling almost into a blur; walking into Harvelle's Roadhouse and not immediately seeing Ash, getting the hug of a lifetime from Ellen, and the expected introductions to the men (and a few women) who were establishing ( Read more... )

They'd had a day's drive ahead of them in the morning. But the weather was clear and the road was good and they'd ended up arriving ... earlier than the evening. More like the afternoon.

Of course, there hadn't been all that much trouble finding the roadhouse. (Getting directions beforehand had helped, too. As usual.)

And also of course, it was damn nice to be greeted by some decent music and a nice backside girl doing things for her wheels - and, by the look of things, the right way.

Dean pulled up beside the truck and honked once, just for the fun of it. The Winchesters were here - and invited, no less. Might as well let everybody know about it.

He rolled his window and killed the engine. "Hey Jo? Need some help with that?" He did know what the answer would be, and was looking forward to the snap, a little. Just like before.

Sam smiled a little as they drove up, feeling... well, maybe not so much more relaxed or hopeful necessarily, but more ready to settle down and take a few days off. As though they'd actually earned a few days off, this time.

He did roll his eyes a little at Dean's usual manner, but by the time Jo'd turned around he was grinning. Waiting for Dean to get smacked down, gently. All the usual banter between all of them.

It was good to be, maybe not home, but among friends.

Ignore him, Sam mouthed, pointing over his shoulder and then twirling a finger at his own temple to indicate Dean had gone crazy somewhere along the way.

Ellen was inside, countering Jo's Ozzy with something more season-appropriate. Well, if The Twelve Pains of Christmas could be considered appropriate. Ellen laughed to herself every time the chorus rolled around to the damned Christmas lights. "If one goes out, they all go out!"

Yeah, definitely better than Ozzy at the moment.

She could see the girl through the window, messing with that truck and she could see the Winchester boys in that damned Impala of theirs. She could remember when their father would pull up to a different roadhouse in that same car. Hopefully, this would be like one of John's early visits. Full of good times and very little tension.

Jo slammed down the hood before answering Dean, taking her own good time to turn around and eye the Impala first, since she was a gorgeous car, and then its two occupants. A slow smile spread across her face.

"Sure, Dean. Why don't you go get me a beer. You know how I love to see you run in those pearls and heels."

Sadly, she was only able to keep the schmoozy face going for another minute before cracking up, and gestured for both of them to stop hiding, "Come out here and give me a hug before I decide at least one of you needs another broken nose."
