Sooo, well this is my first tut :) Some of you’ve been probably waiting for one ^^;

Program: Paint Shop Pro 8
Translatable: Yes
Difficulty: Medium?

(I use both Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop. I color manga in PSP, then use Selective Color in PS. Just to make it translatable fair, we’re not gonna use Selective Color.)

For this tutorial, we’re going to color this cute girl from Gakuen Ouji. Here’s our panel:

Not a very clean one, huh :/ Let’s fix that! First, duplicate your base/background and set it to overlay 100%. Merge All/Flatten it. Duplicate it again and set to multiply 100%. Again, Flatten it.

There! That’s a nice panel :)

Normally I would go for the hair, but let’s start with her pretty eyes *.*
Make a layer and call it “eyes”. I usually label my layers just so it’s easier. Set to multiply 64%. I really don’t know her official colors or anything, so I’ll pick #C0F686.

Now, duplicate the eyes layer and set it to Hard Light 90%. Color all of her eyes.

Aw, ain’t that pretty. Next, her hair band. New Layer “Headband”, set at Hard Light 100%. We’ll use #FCBEC3.

New Layer “Hair”, multiply 100%. I really don’t know the color of hair, so I’m gonna use orange~ #F7BA7F.

Duplicate hair layer, and set it to Hard Light 100%. Color in anything missed including her eyebrows.

Now isn’t that pretty? Onto her clothes! Since her shirt is obviously white, we’ll use a light grey: #C0C0C0. New Layer “Clothes” at Screen 100%.

Next her collar, red. Another Layer “Collar”, Hard Light 100%. We’ll use #EA9B93.

Now, her mouth. New Layer “Mouth” Multiply 22%. Using #FF0000.

Duplicate mouth layer, set to Screen 80%. Coloring everything, including bottom lip.

And lastly, the skin! New Layer “Skin”, Multiply 100%. We’ll use a nice, light skin tone: #FFF7E3.

Careful of the whites in her eyes~ &&&& Now, we’re gonna make another skin layer. Make sure you make this layer below the first skin layer. Set to Screen 66%. Color in her lines using the same color.

Now, duplicate the second skin layer (Screen 66%), and set it to Color 66%.

The lines end up being this yellow-ish :/ Which I think is hideous. So, we’ll change the Hue/Saturation of it.

For PSP: Adjust>Hue and Saturation>Hue/Saturation/Lightness (Or Shift+H)

PS: Image>Adjust>Hue/Saturation (Ctrl+U) *Could be different, IDK.

So, we’ll change the Hue to -21. This, we’ll give it more of a pink-ish color.

And we’re done with the coloring part!

Now, resize your image to 100x100 px.

Now, make a Hue/Saturation/Lightness Layer, set the Saturation to 20+.

Next make a new layer, set it to Soft Light 66%. Fill with #F3BA77.

And lastly, new layer at Luminance (Legacy) 20%. Fill in with #AEE54F.

Tada:

And that’s it! =) Easy, if you know your way around. Feel free to ask for questions/assistance.
