*That* was beautifully written - sparse and very very effective. I'd never have thought to put Jack with Spike but dear god it works - or put it this way *you* made it work. But as we said before, Jack seems to work with anyone. I'm not sure why - possibly for me he's *the* perfect character, dark, sexual, would do anything. He certainly suited this story with Spike. Loved it.

We did a Buffy marathon a couple of winters ago. Originally we'd only seen 4 seasons but because of my Anthony Head love I got a boxed set and we spent 3 months watching the lot. Was wonderful and my two favs turned out to be, yes, Giles, but also Spike, which I hadn't expected at all. Funny how these things turn out...

Spike and Jack have one thing in common; they can be written anywhere on the spectrum from inhumanly cruel to heartbreakingly vulnerable. I *really* appreciate that in characters.

I'm writing Giles/Spike right now (by "writing" I mean "intending to rewatch the appropriate stuff so I can get going again from some very old notes" It's a long time since I wrote any BtvS.) I've been trying to do this for a long time; they are easily the two most interesting characters, but so much of their onscreen interaction is (priceless) comedy and I want something much darker so it's taken a long time to get an angle that works. I'm a huge Anthony Head fan too- I was dubious about Uther at first but not any more- he provides the only real hint of darkness in a show that I love but that is just too fluffy for me to write.
