Yay update! Wow, this just gets more and more convoluted :-)

So, we have Moriarty playing Brook playing Moriarty playing Brook? Woah...

So, a question: Is this an AU, or does everything we saw in canon still apply? I'm thinking the rooftop scene - That scene makes no sense in an AU where Sherlock really did hire an actor to play Moriarty.

So this fic reads like Moriarty has fooled himself into truly believing he is Brook, or else it is an AU.

“Is it an AU?” I hate questions like that! Yes/no/maybe/it’s complicated. Have a long rambling explanation.

This is a fic about memory, as much as anything else. Think of canon as memories; experiences that each character has had. Everything that John, Mycroft, Lestrade experienced onscreen is remembered by them and therefore we can be confident happened, subject to the minor slips that people are prone to. Mycroft's interrogation of Moriarty certainly happened, for instance; though Richard clearly doesn't remember much about it Mycroft does. John talked to Sherlock on the rooftop, saw him jump.

However Richard has holes in his mind. Sherlock is gone. I can’t tell you that the rooftop scene between them happened or didn’t happen, or if Brook was there at all, because there is no-one still around who can say. Or to put it another way, none of the current characters can know for sure what happened between Sherlock and Brook and the reader is in the same situation.

Thanks for the response - I figured it would be something like that.

Still gonna be hard for me to imagine an ordinary actor like Brook thinks of himself putting up with Mycroft's 'interrogation'.
