The yellow tailed lizard species is entirley female, the male counterpart died off a while ago. And in order to continue breeding the Lizards will 'stimulate' eachother so that the egg is released and new lizards can be born.

Wow, that is definitely interesting. o_o I never thought that a species with only one of the sexes left could actually survive. o_o But, are the children only female as well since there's no male when they lay the eggs?

Yes all the yellow tailed lizards are female. The lizards stimulate eachother via humping and through that their egg is released. However, due to the fact that females contain only the XX chromosone and males the XY chromosone, no males can be born. As it is, if a male sperm has the y chromosone needed than the offspring will be make, if it contains the X shromosone than it is female. Seeing as Females don't have the nessacary Y chromosone for a male child, all Yellow tailed lizards are born female, genetic carbon copies of their mothers.

In short, no male lizards, no male babies.

Wow, it's kind of interesting how that species survives being an exact carbon copy of its predecessor. You'd think that they'd all be mentally retarded or something. o_o;

Haha, well I suppose you would think that. But it's really very similar to Asexual reproduction(Birth with only one parent's gentic code). It's all completely natural for them seeing as how they want to survive. They've been surviving like this for a good many years now so I Guess they're gonna be just fine.
