Books - The Scar, by China Miéville

I just realized that I never really write book reviews, despite writing movie reviews (though admittedly only of the simple thumbs up/down variety). I read so few full-length books nowadays that I should definitely mention the occasional one I consume, at least belatedly.

A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer is breathtaking. Incredible. It made a deep impression.

I too dislike space operas intensely, and yet I believe you will find the book Startide Rising by David Brin to be very moving and very intense; it's a far more vivid thing, visualised in my head, than any movie of the scifi genre...it's a brilliant read. it starts slow, that's a warning. but the scenes...the momentary scenes, the glimpses...just...wow

hm, and with regard to Edison - i would never criticize somebody for capitalising upon an improvement or invention; i was implicitly criticizing his advocates for attributing the invention of the lightbulb to him.
