In the UK book cover, there appears to be a goblin in the mix... Could one of the Horcruxes be in Gringott's? Seems like a good place to put such a thing... if a little obvious.
My initial thoughts... Could it be a house elf clinging to Harry's back (on the UK cover)? I'm leaning towards Kreacher. The riches are all the things that he's gathered from the Black family, and the trio are there looking for horcruxes (like the locket)? The elf is carrying a raised sword, so it seems to be more malicious/defensive against Harry than Dobby would be.
As for the full US cover, I love the idea that the curtains mean we're within the midst of the veil from the Dept of Mysteries?
Holy crap! The Patronus stag on the back cover of the UK kids is getting me completely excited that my theory for the ending may actually be on target! I've been hoping for years that the Patronus charm has something to do with vanquishing Voldemort. Oh, I hope I'm right!
The kid's cover in general is much more revealing to me. It's clear that something will go down in Gringott's, because where else could that be?
Harry Potter Raids Gringotts and Finds a Classical Sort of Helmet So Then He Goes to Rome And Fights Voldemort in the Colusseum and Somewhere in There There's a Medallion that Used to Belong to Slytherin
My first thought was about the curtains in the US book cover... I definitely think they're 'beyond the veil' (from OOTP in the Department of Mysteries)... and the shadows in the background are people (maybe Sirius is one of them... that would be so exciting
( ... )
I don't really like how they're drawn either, but I think I'm just used to Mary GrandPre's artwork and it's just different. Although I have my complaints with her as well, but it looks like she's actually drawn Harry as an almost-adult as opposed to a child this time, which is great.
