I really liked this a lot - and omg... I was so horrified the first time I was served Staffordshire oatcakes in a little cafe in Bakewell. They were not what I'd thought I'd ordered XD
thanks! haha, what did you think you'd ordered? also, were they Derbyshire oatcakes, given it's bake well? Which, so far as I am aware (never having actually had one), are basically the same as staffordshire oatcakes but bigger :-)
haha! I thought I'd ordered scottish style oat cakes with ham and cheese... and.. well... all I know is I got a thing that looked like and had the texture of a pancake... except dense. It was really nice, just totally unexpected. Up until that moment I had no idea that an alternative existed! What other strange foods do you have from round your way?
Well, there's staffordshire cheese, which is kinda similar to cheshire and not nearly as widespread, and apparently, courgettes in cheese sauce is a staffordshire thing as well, but mostly, it's just oatcakes. Like, if there were around four lots of regional food from other places, here, there would be four times as many oatcakes! We're kind of mad on them :-)
