Since we've been in 2012, almost since new year's day itself, it has become more of a topic in regular conversation than it was beforehand. The excitement is beginning to build, ( Read more... )

I'm sure you'll be fine! It's normal to worry about these things, but security will be very high around the games when they're finally in town. I wish I'd have gotten to see one of the events while they were in NY. I love the Olympics!

Thankyou! Reassurance does mean a lot.

When did NY host the olympics? I think they were one of the competitors for this time around, but I thought there were limits on how often a certain country could host them - and that other parts of the USA hosted them in the 90's?

I am looking forward to it though, it is a once in a lifetime chance!

They didn't! I'm totally spacing out and just remembering what the last bid consisted of, which old have had games hosted all around the city. Boy do I feel silly with my last comment

Oh man, I'm jealous of the fact that you're getting to go to some of the olympics! I totally get your concerns, though. But I think you'll be fine! (If nothing else, you're not there for the opening ceremonies or the closing ceremonies, which are the most likely targets...) I hope you can focus on the awesome and not worry too much. :) I know how worry can be, though! I feel for you.

We didn't go in the ticket lottery, but after that had been drawn, a travel agent was oferring packages including hotel accomodation etc, along with the tickets, so we got some of those. I think they bought up the tickets to the less-popular events. For example, we're going to the ribbon gymnastics, which will probably be really interesting to watch, but it's not something we'd have thought of choosing (because it's not one of the ones where Britain is predicted loads of medals) and I don't think many other people would have done either (for the same reason).

Based on the July 7th bombings, I'm actually more concerned about getting bombed on the tube rather than at the event itself... but yes, focus on the awesome (that may just be my new saying!) and cheers for stopping by!

Sobering stuff - but hey, we could all get hit by buses tomorrow, too. So look both ways and enjoy the games :)

If I were a terrorist I would certainly put it on top of my list. Hopefully there is a lot of National Security work going on you don't know about, the public I mean.

Newsworthy & well done.

Thanks for the vote of confindence!! But yeah, I guess, talking about the security plans in too much detail might also be seen as an open invitation too.

Thankyou for the compliments *takes a bow*

*hugs* They may not be talking about it so as to keep security a secret from the terrorists.

Keep praying -- that's really all we can do.

Absolutely, on both counts!

Thankyou for injecting a note of common sense into the proceedings! :)
