Linucon: Larval Mode panel

I think the name Larval Mode comes from the Hacker's Dictionary where it means the state of being a novice programmer or techie. An open source ideological leader Eric Raymond and "one of the unsung heroes of the internet" John Quarterman were the panelists. It seems they must have assumed that the primary audience will be high school students and ( Read more... )

I see. Very nice of them (panelists and organizers) to have done that. I was kind of expecting this panel to be about challenges and dilemmas beginner techies may face in the workplace (or while participating in open source projects, for that matter) and compare it to my own experiences. It turned out to be something very different, but no less thought-provoking and lively.

By the way, I think my guess about "Eric's Robot" was mistaken. After looking at Austin Robot Group website, I think the Eric in question was Eric Lundquist.

Did any of our techies ever get to copy these tapes? I'd like to put mp3's of them up on the website, if possible.

We once again had plans to record all the panels, and once again it fell through. I suspect that next year I'm going to have to do it myself, or else it won't get done...

I still haven't contacted Jim Choate about the tapes. I have an MP3 player whose manual says it is possible to transfer music from a stereo into the MP3 player and encode it as MP3s. If it's really possible then I'll be able to make MP3s of the tapes myself. It's just one more thing I have not yet gotten around to doing.
