My grandmother, Rebecca Hall was widowed in the 20's and soon remarried to a widower, John Bleecker.  She had four children, he had five, so they needed a big place to live.  In the late 20's they bought a decrepit three-story Second Empire mansion in West Chester, Pa. and rehabbed it for their family ( Read more... )

What a wonderful story.

My grandparents lived in the house where my grandmother was born, which was built by my grandmother's father. (I learned after her death in 1985 that she'd bullied her husband into buying the house when they moved back to Columbus from Michigan.) It was much smaller than Bleecker Hall, but it had some elegant details. I lived with my grandparents the year I was in kindergarten, so it was "home" to me. I've often driven past it just to see that the current owners are taking good care of it.

what fun! The people running the tour will probably want many stories to add to their history. Be prepaired.
