Yeah it was a little sad because we kept meaning to take him out for a walk to go swimming but there just wasn't time. We finally got to take that walk today and it seemed quiet without him. Poor old boy! I hope he's eating lots of treats wherever he is right now. But he's probably chasing squirrels even though he's never seen one before. XD
Im so sorry for your loss. I recently had a scare with my only pookie, Maggie. She a little yorkie and i love her to death. two weeks ago, she had an infected uterus and was moments away from dying. Luckily I had an emergency center near me that helped her (and me with the bill) and she's much better. But I know partially what you must have went through. I was so scared when they first told me how high the bill was going to be that i knew i had to put her down if something else couldnt be worked out. im just sorry it had to come to that for you. if it didnt work out that was for me, i just dont know how id be right now. just wanted to let you know, ill be thinking of your Hapa and you during this time. Our pets give us so much and ask for so little in return. we should be blessed to have them in our lives, even if it is for a short while.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I don't know what we'd do without our fuzzy, feathered, and scaley friends. They will never judge us no matter what we do or what we wear

OMG, I know what you mean. My vet bill came down from nearly 6k to 2k and I got a credit line for that. If I didn't turn on the waterworks (and trust me, they were real and flowing hard), I dont think they would have had sympathy for me to reduce the bill. All I remember from that day was sitting in a small room after they told me how much it could be (the 6k) and thinking, "I'm gonna lose her...over money." and my heart just broke. I honestly never felt so helpless (im tearing up just thinking back to that day) so I really am so sorry you had to go through that and never, for once think that you didn't do all you could for Hapa. You did and you were the best doggie parent he could have asked for. And do what I'm doing with Maggie; be grateful for the time you still have with your other furry family members. I know I hug her a little more tighter now then I did a few weeks ago.
You should consider purchasing pet insurance since Maggie's had such a high risk health event. I think there are reasonable plans that will help to cover extremely high vet bills and emergencies such as that. We have always considered it but it has never been worthwhile for us since our dogs are normally healthy and have minimal vet care.
The price for emergency vet care is so shocking though! And there just isn't really any sort of financial aid for it when it comes up. I don't even have a credit card so I couldn't charge such a thing even if I wanted to and if I did... I'd have to run away to hide in another country because I'd be in so much debt. At least you were able to take out some credit and they gave you a huge discount! 6k is a LOT of money! I don't know how they expect people to have that sort of money just lying around to spend!
I'll bet you like to take lots of pictures of Maggie now and treat her often. :) All those pictures will help to remind you of all the good times she's had and that makes the hard times worth it
