Environmental aliens (for captoftardis)

Climate change conferences were great for catching up on the news, strategising, talking to old friends and meeting other people who might be helpful. Up until the point where the science went above her head a little. Jo understood more than she had when she was the Doctor's assistant, but the technical stuff was best left to Cliff ( Read more... )

The Doctor had overheard a conversation about there being a conference in town, but didn't think much of it until someone mentioned one of the key note speakers. Their name was so strange, that the Doctor knew it didn't match any distinctive country origin. After researching into the speaker and his works, he couldn't help to think his theories and research were a bit 'out there', so naturally the Doctor had to see for himself.

He had thought he caught a glimpse of something as he rounded the corner and skidded to a halt at a door. Next to the door was a woman.... His eyes went wide. "Jo?!" Oh it had to be her! He recognized that smile and posture anywhere.

She pushed against the wall to stand up straight. She didn't recognise the man and he didn't look like he'd been following her. So as long as she acted naturally he had no reason to suspect her of doing anything suspicious.

"Yes," she said, "that's me." She waited for him to introduce himself.

"I remember there was a time where a young girl, who was quite clever for her age, helped a crass old scientist from another planet...." Oh, how he loved to watch the look of realisation come over the faces of old companions. Infact, he loved when he got to see them again, even if its just passing them on the street.

"What brings you here, Jo?" He asks after bringing her in for a tight hug.

At his words, together with his slightly-odd fashion sense, Jo realised who he was. "I wasn't clever and you weren't crass," she said, grinning as she hugged him.

"I'm here for the climate conference. What are you doing here?" Assuming he wasn't here by accident, of course.

[ooc: the massive squashing of the comments drives me crazy, so I'll post a new thread.]There was no reply to the Doctor's greeting, so naturally that meant it was all clear to step inside and have a look around. Even if someone had replied, his actions would've been the same. Boundaries? What were those ( ... )

Jo heard voices as she approached the ship. "No," she heard the alien say. "You are not like the others."

Jo stepped just inside the ship in time to see the alien grab the Doctor's arm. "He's not," she said, smiling, hoping the alien would take that to mean she didn't intend him any harm. "He's the Doctor. But he's all right really."

"Thank you, Jo!" The Doctor smiled brilliantly like the whole ordeal was just an old reunion among friends.

"Curious, though, why are you looking into harming the Earth's atmosphere and it's inhabitants? If you've spent anytime with humans, you'd see they're not all bad." Unfortunately, he seemed to be in the minority with that opinion, but he hoped his hypothesis was proved to be correct.

"What makes you say that?" the alien asked mildly.

"There's proof in your car," Jo replied. She hadn't really seen enough to be proof, but he didn't need to know that. "You should be more careful where you leave your incriminating documents."
