Jo woke up slowly and frowned, trying to work out what it was that wasn't right. It was a few minutes before she realised it was the smell. And the noise. When she opened her eyes she had a moment of panic, trying to work out where she was. When she thought back to the previous evening she remembered going to bed in her room in the Compound. And ( Read more... )

Abby had kind of gotten used to weird and random things happening after three and a half years on the island, but sometimes it still managed to surprise her. Waking up and promptly hitting her head on the bottom of a bunk bed that hadn't been there before definitely counted in that category.

"Owwww!" she grumbled. "Who put a bunk bed in my hut and why didn't they warn me?"

She woke up a little more once the pain subsided, which allowed her to look around and realize they were not in Kansas anymore, Toto. They were also not on the island, in DC, or anywhere else she would have expected to be. In fact, it looked pretty much like a Marine barracks except Jo was there too, looking equally as confused.

"Jo? Did we join the Island Marines when I wasn't looking?"

Jo shook her head, as she frowned at Abby. To say she was surprised to see her here was an understatement. Maybe the Doctor had brought her here too for some reason, but this wasn't Abby's home and if Abby had wanted to come here, wouldn't she have remembered asking?

"This is UNIT. It's where I work." And then, after looking around she added, "Well, not in this room exactly, in the lab. Except I don't remember how we got here. Or where my clothes are." The latter being an important point just at the moment, because to find out what was going on they were going to have to leave the room and Jo didn't particularly want to go wandering round a base full of soldiers in her pyjamas.

And yet, if she'd slept here she must either have come in her pyjamas, or got changed before she went to bed. In which case there must be some clothes somewhere.

She went over to a set of lockers, opened one with an "Aha!" pulled out a pair of flared jeans and a plain t-shirt that looked like they might fit her, if not something she was likely to have worn

Abby glanced down at her monkeys camisole and shorts and frowned. Jo had raised a lot of good points and she didn't know the answer to any of them. One thing she could fix, though, was clothes. Clothes were easy compared to figuring out why she was in Jo's world instead of on the island with Bert.

"I seem to be missing some clothes too. I mean, I could wander around in this, but it'd be cold and possibly distracting if there are other people here. Is there anything in that locker that might work for me? I don't really wanna go rummaging in someone else's stuff. That's too much like the clothes box."

"It's full of Army soldiers, you'd definitely be distracting," Jo said with a grin. She rummaged around in the locker some more and came out with some baggy black trousers and a shirt, which she passed to Abby.

"We'll go to the lab," she said as she went over to a bunk opposite Abby and turned her back on the room to change. "The Doctor will know what's going on. And we'll be able to get some better clothes from the wardrobe room."
