I totally get Child Protection Laws and the reasons for them etc... there are bad people out there who hurt children (in it's simplest and vaguest of terms, I could go deeper but I'm not in the mood

Hugging has so many meanings; comfort, support, empathy, love, friendship, familiarity. And to take that away is just maddening. Especially if, like you say, you work with kids. If one comes running crying their eyes out to you, there is no longer any way for you to comfort them. It's just ridiculous!!
I would be a completely different person if I had no hugs as I was growing up! And not in a good way either!
