I love Belle de Jour. She goes on the list of Badass Ladies I Admire along with Tina Fey, Jane Goodall and Alanna of Trebond*. Smart as a whip, unapologetic about her sexuality, published author, research scientist, gorgeous lady, talented writer. All things a Woman should aspire to.

I haven't seen the show, and I need to see the show but the model/actress on the right looks really... modely/actressy? Like, she looks unbelievable? Maybe that's the point though? I don't know. Also, I feel like if I became a call girl for $$$ people (even good friends) would judge the hell out of me even if I were pursuing a degree or working another job, etc.

The Real Belle has a PhD and currently does research in developmental neurotoxicology and cancer epidemiology, so I love it when anyone tries to call her stupid. She took on the call-girl job to pay off student loans and the only people who knew her true identity were her publisher, accountant and a former ex-boyfriend. Other friends, parents and work colleagues didn't know until just before she 'came out'.

I think Billie Piper is amazing- they really do her up for the show, since she's supposed to be a call girl; she looked really different as Rose on Dr. Who, I thought.

So I read like the first two sentences I saw on your post and the first thing I saw was (palindrome. +1 for me.) the (L) and (R) and so I was like okay I'm going to say something about Lemocrats but I don't know what the letter next to a politician dude's name is called so I tried googling it. I tried stuff like "letter next to politician's name" "little letter next to politician's name" "what does the R and D mean politicians ( ... )

And Belle (or Dr. Brooke Magnanti, as her identity is now publicly known) is dating a man she calls T for short, for Toothbrush. Because he left one at her place and this was Significant, or something, I don't remember the details as this was a while ago and she hadn't told him she was Belle yet.
