Not that it pertains to your train of thought, but true love definitely doesn't cast out fear in the case of loving one's children. True love is the natural companion of fear, then. The one consuming fear is that you will live to bury your own children, rather than the natural passage of them burying you.
Come to think of it, I think all true love may come with the natural fear of losing the loved one to the great beyond. Even if you can't argue with circumstances, some may simply suck more than others.

I like Jung a lot. I do think it's scary to lose loved ones, though. I would have to read more specifically on how he thought about that. This book, at least, mentions grief a lot and sees it as a normal reaction to bad events.
I certainly couldn't argue that it's better to love, lose and grieve than to live a life alone in avoidance of grief. But man, it doesn't FEEL better, at the time you're grieving..
