What's happening to the neighborhood?

Yesteray, another guy tried breaking into our home while Holly & I were home. It was around 5:30 PM, so at first I thought Joel had an early day at work and was home already. The guy tried turning the door handle back & forth, then started pushing with his shoulder... clearly, he was trying to get in. When that didn't work, he gave up and quietly ( Read more... )

Call the police. Either the nonemergancy line or 911 is fine. They want to know when things like that happen so they can try to establish patterns/areas to patrol more. I am glad he left! How scary!

The last time this happened, the police did absolutely nothing! I didn't even get to write out a statement, and that guy actually entered our home. In fact, they acted like we were either making it up, or must have known him somehow.

That's too bad. Well, they usually don't do anything. They are just supposed to record it and if they get a lot of activity in an area, then they should step up patrols. The one time I had the cops come to my place in Everett the guy treated me the same way. They are super cool in Seattle whenever we have to report drug activity in our neighborhood. Maybe there is just a different culture with the Everett police. If that's so, that's too bad.

They were potentially putting us in danger too by not taking us seriously. Last I checked, breaking and entering was still illegal. I realize that this area isn't the best, but there's still some good people like us here too. I wonder how long I have to report it?

How scary! Glad he gave up on trying to get in. Our police are much the same. They've busted two meth labs on our street and there's been a heroin overdose in the apartments across the street, but if I call to report suspicious activity, I get the standard "we will increase patrols in your area." Riiiight.
