A question...

Here's my dilemma.

I received my bachelors degree in East Asian Language and Culture (Japanese), and I want to continue my education along this route. Would it be stupid to do a Masters degree in East Asian Language and Culture again? I'm afraid that if I do my Masters program in the same field as my bachelors, then I wouldn't be learning anything ( Read more... )

Education could be a good route since you enjoy teaching. If you enjoy something, you might aswell persue that path.

Yeah, since I'm teaching right now, I enjoy it (most days anyway). I also really enjoyed learning about Japanese art&culture back in college. So I still want to continue studying that field if possible. Now, how do I combine those two? (unless I student-teach)

oO...I'll check on that too. It's the combo of Japanese Literature, Art & Culture (aside from Japanese Language studies) that I most want to persue.

Thank you!! =)

Well, Maybe you can branch out. You can be something like Education or Anthropology or something with an emphasis on asian studies, and that would give you the benefit of not being stuck with a purely humanities point of view.

Thank you for the advice! I do want to expand my studies outward. Education is one of my main considerations, although teaching in America differs greatly from teaching in Japan. I wonder...

Thank you for making me feel like I'm not alone~! I've been so frustrated and confused since I came back from the States. I'm still prepping for the GRE so I have awhile before I decide, but I'll definitely look into the schools you've mentioned since I need to start somewhere.

Good luck to you too!! (When are you planning to go back to school?) =)

Waaah~ that's so in the future. You're lucky!! I wish I had more time on my hand to get ready for school.

Too bad I've already set my mind on going home (although I wouldn't mind living in Kyoto again). I bet that once I return to the states, I'll be crying to come back to Japan.

Well, our department was that, so maybe you're right and I'm wrong. =) It is Japanese Language (the major), but it is under East Asian Language and Culture, right?!!? Muwahahahah........so, maybe it was a BA in Japanese Language. *faints*

I got my BA in Psychology; then my MA in Counseling Psychology; and I've been contemplating getting my PhD in Counseling Psychology. Talk about not really learning anything new. My brain was immersed in Psychology for six years and I'm working as a Counselor right now. I'm never going to learn anything new or experience anything outside the world of Psychology. But I must really like the world of Psychology to be in the field for such a long period of time ( ... )

Tis a pity I won't get to see you when you come to Japan!

Yeah... visit too short and I want to spend time with my parents. My mom's doing pretty poorly (emotionally) and she needs some counseling!
