And that flying scene still just works and I always have an insane urge to write 'this is how they carry on a longtime affair for a few years' fic even though I would suck at it because Nathan bitchslaps me when I try to write him in any way.

i do think that claire and nathan understand each other on a deeper level. they are very alike and compatible in a lot of ways.

I completely agree. That's one of the reasons their relationship potential is so amazing on the show, having so much opportunity for them to butt stubborn, passionate heads. Their connection would be strengthened and augmented by their mutual, innate (if unacknowledged) understanding of each other.

I still really like Paire, but, as you say, it's really everywhere. Besides, as unlikely as Paire is to ever happen on the show, Nathan/Claire would never, EVER happen, which makes the longing for it even more acute :D Plus, it's just such a hot pairing, in and of itself.
