This news won't reach most people, but it should. Justin Fuller, a Texas death row inmate, was executed last week. He had a court-appointed lawyer represent him in his state habeas corpus proceedings. touche. although, to be fair, clinton ended meaningful federal habeas review in 1996 with the antiterrorism and effective death penalty act. that act allowed state courts to be the primary interpreters of the federal constitution as it regards criminal proceedings and explicitly allows convictions (and death sentences) obtained by unconstitutional means to remain valid.

Isn't it irritating to hear some "liberals" refer to Klinton as a "liberal". If I remember correctly, his last act as Governor of Arkansas was to approve the execution of a mentally retarded prisoner... In not entirely unrelated news, did you listen to Vanessa Redgrave talking about the Maher Arar case on Democracy Now? Very good stuff.
