"But at least the experience of sitting through a film in which so many things happen that just don't work or don't make sense does make you appreciate more those films where that's not the case."
Now that really smacks of a desperate attempt to find any upside in a couple of wasted hours!
Hot Fuzz is definitely good though and bibliogirl tells me it repays a second viewing.
(a) When Adam (of Adam and Joe) is standing at the foot of the church tower, about halfway through, with a hooded figure atop said tower working loose one of the pinnacles, and;
(b) when Simon Pegg chases down Timothy Dalton in the model village, towards the end, and he (Timothy) falls towards the model church tower.
They're both pretty well built-up-to, not sudden shocks, so there's plenty of warning time to cover eyes etc. But both are quite protracted, so you probably will need someone to tell you when it's safe to look again.
We saw Hot Fuzz last night and I had to hide from both of the tower incidents too. Otherwise it was very funny, although a little slow for the first hour. I loved the shoot-out.

Blee. As I'm pretty squeamish, can you prewarn me so I know when to look away from the screen?
