[this man is completely unfamiliar, and normally Fenris wouldn't have paid much attention to him, but...]

How do you know Merrill?

Fenris? [ Another pause, and he pulls up the mirror... thingy to stare at the screen. Fenris is regarded upside down for a moment, but Hawke quickly turns it, staring down. ] It's good to see a familiar face!

[ For a brief moment, there is relief on his features. After all, if anyone can point him in the right direction- not that he's even sure where that direction is anymore- surely it's Fenris! ]

Of course I know Merrill. Is she here? [ A pause, and once again he looks around. ] I don't suppose... you know where here is, do you?

[His eyes narrow dangerously. Hawke should know that look.]

How do you know me?

[ He certainly does recognize this look- it's just a very strange thing to be on the receiving end of it. ] Now Fenris, what sort of question is that?

[ He frowns, looking perturbed for a moment. ] It's me. Hawke. You know, Champion of Kirkwall?

[This should be telling enough.] You are not she.

She? Why on earth would I be a she.

[ For a moment, he wonders if there is enough wine in all of Tevinter to get Fenris drunk enough to mistake his very gender.

He pauses, and frowns, bringing one of his hands up and resting his finger against his lip, his thumb at his chin as he tries to make sense of this. ]

Fenris I can assure you, I've always been a man.

That I do not doubt, though it does negate your claim of the title.

But it is my title. I had to decapitate the Arishok to get it. Regrettable shame, that. Damn Isabela. [ But Isabela's name is spoken in a way that is not chastising, but fond. The way one speaks it when trying not to laugh. ]

[Isabela. What is this man on about?] What does she have to do with the Arishok?

Isabela stole the book! Well I mean, she brought it back in the end, but by then the damage was already done now wasn't it?

Honestly you can't tell me you don't remember any of this. [ Skepticism, it is obvious in Hawke's voice as he stares down at where Fenris's face stares back at him on this strange little device. ]

[His large green eyes widen.] You're claiming the artifact she stole belonged to the Qunari? [He mutters something in Tevinter.]

...no, I do not.

Really? Because honestly, I kind of think that is the sort of thing someone should remember... [ That was muttered to himself, and he looks perplexed as he stares down at the screen. ]

Fenris- are you all right? Tell me- what is the last thing you can remember?

[Well, Hawke, the last thing he remembers is running away from a very good thing because of a lot of badness in his head, but he's not going to tell a complete stranger that. Instead, he finds that moment of perverse pleasure...]

Crushing that bitch Hadriana's heart in my hand.

[ Don't worry, Fenris. He's sure that good thing will still be waiting for you, whenever you go back.

He knows, because he would. ]

Hadriana... [ Have another frown. ]

That... That was a very long time ago, Fenris. [ He confesses this slowly, gauging, and debating how much he should say. Thinks dropping the D-bomb now would probably be a bad idea, especially with Fenris as distrusting as he is now. ]

[He still doesn't believe him, can't believe him. It couldn't possibly be a secret among the hunters that he'd found stalwart allies. Even this could be a trick, especially considering Hadriana's demise.

She was so important to Denarius, once he learned of it, it would only make sense he'd up the ante.

Still, there were people here from the past, from other worlds. He couldn't ignore that, as much as he might want to. But...he had to be sure.]

If you are Hawke, tell me something about myself I've only told you.

I remember once, when I came to you in your mansion. you were drinking a bottle of something from Tevinter- I'm afraid that I cannot recall the vintage. [ Hawke pauses, and looks away from the Tablet, remembering, his eyes soft as he remembers. ]

You told me of when Danarius was forced to leave you, when you took refuge with the fog warriors. How you admired them, admired their life of freedom, and how they bowed to no one.

[ A pause. ]

And then, you spoke of when Danarius returned. [ Hawke remembers this well, because he remembers being for once in his life, at a loss. Apalled, and sympathetic. Overwhelmed by how his friend must have felt in that moment, and worst of all, unsure as how he ever could have helped. ]

You told me how you killed them, Fenris. You killed them all, because Danarius had ordered it.

Because you had expected it. But when it was done, you felt remorse.

And then, you ran. You ran, and you met me.

I have called you my friend, and my ally ever since.
