[The device starts recording a large, looming horned figure with gray skin and a perpetually furrowed brow peering curiously at the buttons. He turns the device over, inspecting it thoroughly, before carefully prodding buttons that are, by all means, more suited to one half his size ( Read more... )

[There is yet another flicker of surprise.]

...It speaks.

"It" does, sometimes, if there are people to listen. [Is this that golem all" over again? Tht would suck.]

[He just kind of learned that it isn't the device talking to him.]

You are not... inside this tablet. But somewhere else. Speaking through one like it?

[He seems very perplexed now]

Another voice.

What is the meaning of this?

We use it to communicate. Welcome to the bloody Underworld.

There is little point in asking how it works then. So you are not inside it. I see.

Underworld... is that another word you humans use for the Deep Roads?

[The elf's expression is certainly surprised. A Qunari? Here? But he quickly regains his composure enough to speak. In his memory, he'd never met a Kossith who did not speak the Qun, and so, here was a shot.]

It is a means of communication. Whether it is magical or mundane in nature, I do not know. I am called Fenris.

[And now the thing is showing the face of an elf speaking the Qun at him. If Maraas had a sense of humour, he'd have thought the Universe was trolling him something fierce. Instead he just sighs. He isn't interested in a fight but if the elf is Qunari then there is little he can do trapped in this device.

He opens his mouth to explain that- but stops. This elf is very familiar. Was he not one of the companions of Hawke? He'd seen him once or twice at the Hanged Man on the nights the pirate and the dwarf held that game of cards.

Did this mean he had simply wandered into a strange part of Kirkwall? More questions raced through his mind, but he needed to make one thing very clear.]

Fenris. You are one of Hawke's. [It's in common tongue and his words are slow and deliberate as if they are strange even to him. But his meaning is quite plain. He is not of the Qun. Not anymore at least.]

[There has been something familiar about his kossith since his image first appeared, and it would seem he knows Fenris. He's quiet for a moment as he searches him memory. It's fairly recent.] I am. And you are Maraas. Forgive my not recognizing you sooner. [Tal-Vashoth or Qunari, the kossith were always a stanch race, and Maraas was no exception. Fenris could respect his stoicism, of course, and he nodded in greeting.] I would not have you here, had I the choice, but there is much to be explained. A skeletal creature has left you on a desolate dock, correct?

There is nothing to forgive. [He had probably exchanged, perhaps, two words with the elf in his entire time having been acquainted with the Champion of Kirkwall. It was, however, that acquaintance that had kept him from being slaughtered with other Kossith around Kirkwall and secured him some measure of trust around the Hanged Man. Still, he would not have recognized Fenris at all were the elf not so distinctive in appearance.]

The choice doesn't seem to be yours. Or anyone elses'. Explain what you can.

[He appears on the video, simply smirking.]

My what large... horns you have. Good afternoon, my large Qunari friend.

...I hear that a lot. [He's starting to suspect that there is some kind of joke about big horns that he has little interest in hearing.]

...I am not Qunari.

I am not even that. Qunari would say I am worse.

...Who are you?
