However, until we figure out if this is contagious in anyway, please take the precautions of gloves and a masks when dealing with those effected

What contagions could we pick up from people's wounds reopening.

It's less for you then it is for the injured. Any contact could get infection into the open wounds. Infection is as dangerous as the wound itself.
