If that question were simple, I would answer it frankly. Unfortunately, we are all similarly confused. That being said, you are currently in the Underworld of Greek Mythos, originating on Earth I'm told. From what we have been told, we were brought here by the goddess Hecate to be used as distractions for Hades, the lord of this land, who has lost his mind and seeks to destroy all life in the universe.

My name is Sephiroth. [A short pause before the last is added.] What are you called?

The Greek Mythos is something familiar to us, by now. The unfortunate state of the matters doesn't make it any less disruptive. You're input is appreciated and needed. This was data we didn't have.

[They always need new data.]

Sephiroth. This will be remembered.

We have been designated Legion.

Legion. Understood. You mentioned you do not die as "organics" do. Am I to assume you are a synthetic organism?

'Organism' implies that we were ever alive in the same sense that organics are.

Clarification: 'Organics' is a blanket statements. Not every being is of the same species, yet they are all built as their natures intended, not manufactured. Organic.

We are in no part cybernetic, or artificially reproduced. We are not 'synthetic'.

As a biological reference, that is correct. As a term to define self, it is simply referring to possessing several interdependent systems that comprise a whole, which I assume you do. You are, in fact, an organism. That is, unless you are nothing but words on a screen, which would be both disappointing and impossible. You are concerned for your presence in this Underworld. It's highly unlikely you would be so concerned were you simply a program.

It would seem we have varying definitions of "synthetic". If you were not born, you were manufactured. Whether manufactured of carbon-based, multi-cellular, naturally occurring material or from plastic or metallic alloys, you were assembled. Synthetic.

[A brief pause.] Do you enjoy debating over symantics? [Protip: he does too.]

Yes. Occasionally, we do appreciate such discussions. They offer different perspectives.

Our view of 'synthetic' is that of synthesizing in and of itself. A mixture of compounds or materials rather than thinking of ourselves as something that could be considered an organism. In some ways, you are correct. In some ways, you are not. We are not a single program.

We are a gestalt of precisely 1,183 programs. In some ways this mirrors what could be considered the brain and nervous system of most organics; autonomous parts working as a whole. In this sense, your ideology of 'organism', synthetic or otherwise, is correct. However. We are self-evident, self-aware with our gained perspective. That is where you are incorrect.

[And likes to debate in detail, as a matter of fact.]

As I've offered a different perspective, as you've said, I wouldn't say I am correct or incorrect, and neither are you. We simply have differing views of our existences.

I apologize for the change in subject, but have you had your situation explained?

This is agreeable. We accept this new perspective, and are grateful for it.

No need to apologize. We have, indeed, had the situation explained.

You are welcome to it anytime, Legion.

Understood. If you have further questions, you may ask them.

At this time, we do not have any question. In the future, there may be a time that we do.
