The Underworld was not a bad place. Any person who was raised on the rougher side of life could see its appeal, especially an ex-assassin who only wanted a new start. Unfortunately there were others who knew of him around and the connections he made in this place was frightening. Such as Starwind. Things were moving too fast and connections were becoming too deep. He had heard when there was talk of a son left behind. Zevran could not deal with that.

So now he was to be found visiting each bar, searching for a good looking man or woman to share his bed for the evening. Or any type of furniture for any amount of time, really.

His eyes had caught on a pretty blond and he was tempted to visit her at the pool table before he realised he was not the only one watching. Zevran slipped into the shadows, moving through the bar before coming out behind Remy and chuckled.

"This is a wonderful place, is it not my friend? Beautiful woman, plenty of alcohol and games, and all the time in the world."

Years of practice, growing up and in practical application, had given Remy the ability to never worry about jumping when people approached him, though he did pick up both his whiskey glass and the coaster underneath it as well, cutting his eyes toward the sound of the voice, several inches below his own.

Well, if that didn't beat all. He looked all the part of an old world Assassin, with pointed ears, even. A slow smile spread across his lips as he looked back to the pool table and the voluptuous blond leaning over to rack her balls.

"Could be a lot worse an' no mistake, homme." He looked back to the elf. "Don't think I've had de pleasure."

Zevran had to give the man credit where it was due, he barely flinched at his own approach. That said something about the man, piquing his interest so he looked up with a smirk.

"Ah, neither have I my friend. My name is Zevran, former assassin, current appreciator of the Underworld's fine displays of beauty. Such as that lovely woman." He smirks as he looks back to the woman, an eye raising as she leaned over to shoot. She was going to miss, yes, but she would look very nice doing so.

Zevran looked back up. "And what is your name, my new friend?"

He raised an eyebrow at this 'Zevran'. "Former Assassin, eh?" He swirled his whiskey glass as he watched the woman take her clumsy shot. Her eyes raised briefly and as Remy's found hers across the bar, he smiled and tilted his head gently in her direction, nonchalantly gesturing with his glass.

And still, his conversation didn't miss a beat. "I didn't take de Assassin's Guild as a club you got to quit."

[Laura happened to actually be in one of these bars, she had no reason other than that it gave her somewhere semi-familiar to be. At home she had often frequented dives like this, mostly for work. She had not expected to see anyone here that would actually rescue her, most stuck to the nicer bars or the one place run by an actual resident.]

[In his scanning of the place, he wasn't really sure what he'd been expecting, but it certainly wasn't Laura, looking completely out of place, but oddly okay with it.

He made his way over.]

What are you doin' here, petit?

[She blinks slowly as he approaches, but doesn't make any other movements besides that.]

I was looking for work.

[ She's just going to plop down right next to Remy and eye that deck of cards. It's been a while since she's had any real entertainment that wasn't getting wasted and punching people with Kaine and tonight's been dull, so why not? ]

So what are the odds I'm gonna get my credits cheated out of my pocket if I express interest in that deck of cards?

[He looks up from his whiskey, a devilish smile spreading across his lips.]

Color Gambit insulted, Buzzkill. Dis [Indicating the deck he's been idly shuffling one-handed] is my special deck. She don't get played. [He reaches into his coat and pulls out a deck still wrapped in cellophane] Dis be de deck yo' lookin' for.

Buzzkill? [ A snort. ] First time I heard that one.

[ Eyebrow quirk and your deck swapping. ] Ooh, special deck. What's so special about it?

[He leaned back, fanning the deck across the table face down, then flicked a wrist, sending the cards flipping over to reveal themselves. If she counts, she'll notice the deck is about 10 cards short. Then he leans back, folding his hands behind his head.]

Mo' dangerous dan I look, remember? To Gambit, anything be a weapon. Even innocent little cards.

[Ivy had caught the flutter of Gambit's cloak as he'd walked into one of the bars and she'd sauntered in after him. It was a hunt with him, one she had already begun to find joy in. Yet, still, there was a biting in the back of her mind that told her she needed to stay away from him, nobody deserved to be dragged into her world, she'd already done that with one person who didn't deserve it.

Still, she went in, swaying her hips slowly as she walked up.]

Somehow I'm not surprised to see you here.

[Those hips were a sight for perfectly healthy eyes, let only the sore ones he threw her way as she sauntered up to him.]

Fancy meetin' you here, chere. Now, Gambit made a promise. He don't back outta promises.

[She leaned against the bar and smiled.] So, you're here attempting to make money?

Attemptin'? [He scoffed and leaned back against the bar, himself.] Gambit don't try, chere. He delivers.

It's the end of a long, hard and tiring day when McCoy walks in. Nerves frayed and temper hanging by a thread, he made his way to the bar to order a drink. Bourbon. Straight.

It's only when he gets his drink that he notices the strange red eyed fellow he spoke to a great deal earlier, shuffling cards with dexterous hands. Paying for his drink, he studies the fellow calmly before heading towards him.

Stopping just before the table, McCoy nodded in greeting.
"I have to thank you for keepin' a eye out for Laura."

He didn't raise his eyes from the deck as he moved the cards, their motion comforting in a way he probably couldn't explain if he were asked, but smiled at the good Doctor nonetheless as he approached.

"Wasn't fo' de gratitude, Doc. Laura's a friend." Finally he did lift his gaze to McCoy, and the smile he offered the doctor was friendly and inviting. "Care to have a seat, monsieur?"

"Even so, I do appreciate people lookin' out for each other." He said with a soft smile. "I will thank you." Nodding, McCoy set his drink down and sat, lean back comfortably.

"So you're a mutant, same as Mystique and Kurt, correct?"

"Sho nuff, Doc." He smiled, intentionally meeting McCoy's eyes with his own. "What be yo' first clue, eh?"
