Returning to the office of Strife Delivery had becoming normal custom for Fenris these days. He was working more, and enjoying it. There was something strangely comforting in earning a day's wages like any other free person in the universe. He found himself feeling more and more often as though he'd worked his way up some sort of strange cliff he'd never known he'd faced, clawed through strife and oppression to reach this point.

The feeling was slightly cheapened by the knowledge of the crest being the Maker-forsaken Underworld. Heavy sword thumping rhythmically to the pattern of his footfalls, he made his way into the Market and stopped. He'd never in his life gazed upon a creature so beautiful, so elegant, or so seemingly out of place. It never even entered into his mind that he was staring. He was too busy doing it.

Lúthien was used to staring; her mother had always taught her to be gracious about it. She had that effect on people, and she didn't mind since it cost nothing and harmed no one. Being in an unfamiliar locale surrounded by all sorts of people, however, made her more self conscious when she noticed them in the market, some averting their eyes when she looked their way and others gazing at her rather more unabashedly.

One man she spied watching her caught her attention- he was an Elf! So there were others of the Eldalie in the Underworld. He seemed different, though, and unlike the Firstborn of Ilúvatar that she knew, so she wasn't sure if she ought to approach him. Instead, she smiled at him and nodded her head in greeting, being slightly too far away for it to be polite to simply call to him over the din of the marketplace.

The moment she noticed him staring he immediately felt his cheeks flush, heat radiating from his collar and settling across his face. He swallowed and made to leave. He found himself incapable of doing so, though, and instead discovered himself approaching this most curious woman. She had the look about her of someone new to the Underworld, and that was justification enough to speak with her, wasn't it? He found himself hoping so as he came within speaking distance.

"Forgive me...for staring, I mean. You...stand out."

Newness was certainly written on her face. Lúthien was obviously still taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells of the Underworld- a nigh-overwhelming prospect considering the amount of information she was currently being forced to digest. Still, to see another Elf was a glad sight indeed, even if he seemed somehow unlike her kindred.

"There is nothing to forgive. It does seem that there are very few of our race here. Indeed, I feared I was the only one."

His eyes moved across her form again. Her ears were pointed, but the similarities between the two of them ended there. Her eyes looked human enough in size, even if they were beautiful and sparkling. All of her features, really, though beautiful beyond compare, were very human in nature.

"Our races have very little in common, I suspect."

Just as he observed her, Lúthien took the chance to survey the smaller Elf's features. She wasn't bothered by the disparities between them. He was still an Elf, though she wondered at the meaning of the strange markings on his face, for she'd never seen anything similar in Doriath.

There wasn't really any way of determining how similar or dissimilar their races were on the whole, though she assumed there would be time aplenty to discuss that. "Be that as it may, I am gratified to make your acquaintance. I am Lúthien."

He averted his eyes as she gazed, uncomfortable but not unaccustomed to the attention. Everywhere he went, people stared at the markings, whispered 'freak' under their breaths. It was true. It was what he'd been made to be.

"My name is Fenris."

Although Fenris might have felt uncomfortable, there was no sort of disdain or judgement in Lúthien's eyes; she perceived nothing freakish or worthy of scorn.

Extending her hand to him with a serene smile, she said, "A star shines upon the hour of our meeting, Fenris."

He tilted his head to the side but didn't take her hand.

"You do me too much honor, Lúthien." She spoke like royalty, but there was no elvhen royalty to speak of.
