To say Brennan was late wouldn't exactly be accurate. Well, he arrived about five minutes after noon, but he'd said "ish" which should have covered the gap. He'd stopped on the way for a coffee from the lovely Miss Ellen and had taken one along for his research partner (and hoped she liked coffee) at the Roadhouse and made his way down to the library.

The person waiting outside had to be Annabeth, and he took a minute to measure her up. She was just a kid from what he could figure, and certainly not what he'd been expecting. Still, he raised the cup that would belong to her in greeting.

"Annabeth?"

At the sound of her name, Annabeth nearly jumped, but managed to just turn calmly toward the source of the voice and nodded. Sure, she was young, but she'd had a life of training to defend herself and harness the...peculiarities inherent in her somewhat strange blood. She was the best at what she did.

"Yes." It only hit her then that Brennan hadn't actually seen her before now and it was doubtless a surprise. "Sorry. I...should probably have said something."

"About," he asked amicably as he came closer? She was small, but he was a horrible judge at 6'4". He offered the other cup of coffee to her when he was within range. "Sorry I'm late, by the way. I stopped for coffee." Once his hand was free, he pulled a small baggie from his coat pocket. "And cream and sugar if you're not a black-drinker."

"About how I'm probably younger than most people want their strategist," Annabeth answered somewhat drily, accepting the offered cup and both cream and sugar to go with it. She blushed a little, and smiled, though, lowering her eyes for a moment before she regained her composure.

"No, it was probably a good idea. Who knows how long we're going to be in there?" For more reasons than one. "Thanks."
