Wheezing and Whining

As both of my regular readers probably know at this point, I have asthma, and I have it fairly bad. Not life-threateningly bad, and I don’t go to the emergency room on a regular basis (it’s been about three years since that’s been necessary), but I do get a nasty flareup every couple of months or so. My ideas:

* MyFitnessPal or another calorie tracker for figuring out how much to eat. I don't find estimating size that useful since a clenched fist of carrots and a clenched fist of cheesecake have vastly different nutritional profiles.

* Lots of low-calorie snack foods, as you suggest. Veggies. Popcorn is also better than many people think it is, if you're a salty-food snacker and you stay away from the overbuttered kind.

* Don't be too hard on yourself if you don't stick to good habits on the prednisone. I like the saying about holiday eating that we don't get overweight by overeating on Thanksgiving or Christmas, it's the other 363 days that do us in. Maybe prednisone periods are like that for you. If trying to lose weight on prednisone is truly a losing battle, it might be better just not to fight the battle, give yourself a couple weeks of grace, and then get back on the horse when your health is under control. Seems like that'd be better than letting your progress get derailed by trying to fight a battle you can't win.
