A History of Violence is one of the most pointless movies I have ever seen. If you can help me see the bigger picture of it, please enlighten me. Until then, I stand by it being the biggest waste of my time.
Also, you have to love Yo-Yo Ma and he did the most kick ass job with the music in Memoirs of a Geisha. I did love Brokeback Mountain and I suppose the score did carry the film. Like I enjoyed it a lot but since it was based on a short story that was like 30 some pages, without the music and great scenic shots of Wyoming, it would have been lacking.
I saw Crash too and I don't get what the whole hype is about. I mean it was good, I love Terrence Howard (Hustle and Flow should get way more credit) but everything in the movie seems to be kind of obvious.
And as for Walk the Line v. The Whale and the Squid, I couldn't say that's a tough ass call. Those were two damn good movies.
I love you lots! I'm coming to Elon in February by the way! Be ready!
dawg, im with you on the history of violence shit. there was a ton of hype and zero delievery. left the theatre disappointed.
i might have to disagree with the statements concerning crash, madeline. i loved it, thought the acting was good, and although some of the writing in the beginning, dealing with the stereotypes and trying to get that message across strong and early, was a little corny and obvious, i still appreciate a lot of major points and the a lot of the story.
History of Violence had some great questions about the nature of violence and Maria Bello was solid in it but I wouldn't say it hit me the same way a lot of other movies did this year.
Crash may be obvious but I think the reason for the hype is because nobody actually tries to bring up the issue of racism anymore. Everybody focuses so much on the past that a lot of people don't want to talk about how most everyone has racist tendencies these days.
Walk the line is wonderful. I was blown away by it, especially Reese and Joaquin. Squid and the Whale was great, but I feel like Walk the Line edges it out because of the time and grace that they put into it. However, I will say that Laura Linney should get more recognition because she is probably one of the top 5 actresses right now.
