Part 1 | Part 2

When Sam came out of the shower, dressed, he could hear the argument Dean and Anna were having from the hallway. He slowly made his way towards the sound, catching a glimpse of the twins looking very worn out as he went by their room. He could tell from the bits and pieces of the argument he was picking up that it wasn’t pretty. Anna blamed herself for this, and from what he could tell of the situation, he couldn’t blame her, really-he had a feeling if the situation was reversed, he would be doing the same. In fact, he was doing the same. First Jess, then Madison, now Jen-the pattern was becoming ever more clear, and he was trying not to let it get to him. It wasn’t working very well.

“What happened?” Sam asked, making his way further into the room. “Did she know the guy?”

“Yeah,” Anna said bitterly.

“Was it-”

“Yeah, it was Gordon,” Dean replied. The entire conversation they kept their eyes on each other, and if looks could kill, he had a feeling he would have been out a brother, and the boarding house would have an empty bedroom. “And Anna here is still blaming herself for this, when she shouldn’t.”

“It is my fault,” Anna sighed. “I led him right to us.”

“Why do you think it was just you, Anna? It could have been any of us that led him here-hell, he’s been out for Sam’s blood for months.”

“But I’m the one who saw him most recently. I’m the one who blew him off.”

“Why the fuck would he care about you? No offense, babe-you’re great, but I don’t think you’re fantastic enough the reach stalking level with Gordon. Unless you have something you haven’t been telling me, in which case, I really think you ought to fess up right about now.” Anna hesitated, and Dean rolled his eyes. “No, wait, let me guess-it’s ‘complicated’.”

Anna’s face pleaded with him slightly, before turning her eyes from him to Sam. “Sam-”

“Don’t bring him into this,” Dean cut her off. “This is between me and you; not me, you and my brother.”

She hung her head slightly, before holding her fingers, and letting him see as the sparks as they jumped between her fingertips. Dean’s eyes flashed slightly, and he turned back to Sam. Sam ran a hand over his face.

“Dean, don’t-”

“You knew about this, and you didn’t tell me?”

“Dean, I told him not to tell you; he was only doing as I asked.”

“When did you find out?” Dean asked, ignoring the comment Anna made about her request to Sam.

“When we first met,” Sam sighed.

“So you knew. You knew all this time, and you didn’t think that once I started banging the girl that you might want to say something to me?”

“She asked me not to say anything, and honestly? I didn’t really think it mattered at that point. She wasn’t hurting anyone, and it wasn’t my secret to tell.”

“I didn’t think it mattered either,” Anna replied, glaring at him. “As Sam said, I wasn’t hurting anyone, and I wasn’t hurting you. You never seemed to complain about me being a bit electrifying before.”

“I’m just thinking that a heads up might have been nice,” Dean glared back. “So in case something like, I don’t know, this happened I wouldn’t be completely blindsided by finding out that my girlfriend is a-” He paused for a minute, before giving her a look. “Well, what the fuck are you, anyway-another one of the kids like Sam? A witch? Demon? Got werewolf blood running through your veins or something?”

Anna’s face fell again and she shifted uncomfortably. “I don’t know.”

“You don’t even know. Beautiful. Just fuckin’ beautiful.” He ran a hand over his face, before shaking his head slightly, and making his way out of the room.

“Dean,” Sam began, trying to stop him.

“I need some air.”

“Dean-”

“No, Sam,” Anna sighed, shaking her head. “It’s okay-just let him go.”

“But-”

“I knew it was going to blow up in my face eventually. Just worry about Jen right now, alright? Me and Dean’ll deal on our own.”

“Fine,” Sam replied slowly. “Let me know if you need something.” Anna nodded, and Sam disappeared into her room.

Once the door was closed behind him, he made his way to the bed and sat down on the edge next to her, brushing her hair away from her face. From what he could tell, Luke had healed things as well as he could have, but there were still cuts that had to be healed, and she was still going to be in a lot of pain. Silver poisoning hurt like a bitch, so he’d been told, and no magic was capable of really pushing that pain away completely. From the brief glance he had gotten of Nate as he was walking to where Dean and Anna were, he could tell that what Luke had done wasn’t going to be easy on either of them. This shouldn’t have happened. Not to her and not here. His hand brushed the side of her face, and her eyes blinked open at him, thankfully not showing the same empty, vacant look that they had before.

“Sam?”

“Go back to sleep, Jen.”

“Wasn’t sleeping. Hurts too much.”

He gave her a concerned look. “You need some rest.”

“I can’t. Fuck, it hurts.” Her body seized up as a wave of pain washed over her, and she rolled over curling up closer to him and pinching her eyes closed.

Sam didn’t know what to do. He’d never had to deal with anything like this before. He just looked back at her, freezing for the second time today, two more than he was really comfortable with, and waiting until she talked to him again to actually respond to her.

She blinked her eyes open again, filled with tears she was probably refusing to let herself cry. “Stay with me?”

“Of course,” he said quickly.

“Sam, don’t just-”

“I’m here, Jen,” he murmured as he crawled into bed next to her, wrapping his arms around her. “I’m not going anywhere.” He held her until she eventually stopped shaking, and they both, slowly drifted off to sleep.

A few hours later, Dean made his way into the room and shook his brother’s shoulder lightly, trying to rouse him. “Sam. Sam, get up.”

“What?” he mumbled, pulling away from Jenny gently and running a hand over his face.

“Need your help,” Dean replied. “Anna’s gone.”

“Gone?” Sam frowned.

“Apparently she’s been gone for a while now, and no one thought to notice. She’s didn’t hit the road, she’s not answering her phone-”

“You think she went after Gordon?”

“It’s possible. But that doesn’t matter, we’re gonna go find her.”

Sam nodded, before starting to slide out of bed. Jenny hadn’t woken up during the whole exchange, and still slept somewhat peacefully as the boys shut the door behind him. Sam ran a hand through his hair, and giving his brother a look. “Dean-about before-”

“Doesn’t matter right now,” Dean replied, leading the way down the stairs. “What matters is getting to her before Gordon does.”

“And if we don’t?”

“So help me God, Sam, if he lays so much as a finger on her, I’m gonna kill him.”
