Dickon is hard at work in the garden, Soot perched on his shoulder and Captain nosing about a few feet away.
'Hard at work in the garden' has been more or less his default state for several days now.
He's beginning to worry about what he's going to do when the garden runs out of work that needs doing.

The sound stops, as Mary catches sight of Dickon.
There's a pause; then she asks, "How are my flowers doing?"
Reply
"Well enow'."
He half-turns, and offers a slightly hesitant smile.
"Come see for thysel'?"

Directed at the flowers:
"I am sorry I left you for so long - but I knew Dickon and Colin would take care of you."

Neither does Dickon.
"Master Colin's been graidely 'elpful the past few days." A brief pause. "'E weren't pleased t' 'ere tha weren't feelin' well."
