It had all happened in a bit of a blur. Kanan had gotten home from work, had settled in for a quiet night of staring off, bored, into the void in the company of his dog and a bottle of something 160 proof, and had almost immediately been interrupted with a call from Portalocity. No giant birds, no, but a rainbow-spotted dog barking at the door the moment the knock came. A few moments later, Kanan was opening the door and giving Eliot a sheepish smile, and Stance was prancing out into the hallway, doing the happy puppy dance and wagging his tail enthusiastically.

"Hey, Eliot," Kanan said. "Sorry about the short notice, there."

Kanan made a very eloquent sort of "Eugh" sound, shaking his head and rolling his eyes toward the ceiling.

"Almost enough to turn me off Earth food for good," he said, even while making a face at the whole 'kid' thing. "I don't know what their obsession with those things is. I'm guessing they just keep doing that to get a reaction out of me."

He crouched down and clipped Stance's leach onto his collar, and then looked up at Eliot again, smiling wryly.

"You can blame it on the pancakes if he takes this badly, though. Maybe a sad dog will get them to give it up."
