Question on Canon

Sep 14, 2007 10:58

I asked this over at BSV, but I thought I'd check with my lj peeps, too. In the BtVS episode "Hells Bells" Spike brings a date to Xander and Anya's wedding, in an attempt to make Buffy jealous. Was his date a vampire? I don't think it ever really specified on the show, but I assumed that she was. Now, I'm writing a one-shot that centers around that ( Read more... )

writing, spike

It never occured to me that she was a vampire. I just assumed she was a goth chick he met at the mall or something.

I once read a GREAT fic based on her, though, by........ ARGH! It was the only Spike/OC fic I ever liked!

Was it Bit Parts by Mint Witch? I remember reading that and being impressed with the character she created. Good fic.

Yes it was. I went on a huge tear this morning trying to figure it out and finally found it at the All About Spike Archive.

I guess I assumed she was a vamp because Spike is a vamp. Which, now that I think about it, was really pretty narrow minded of me. Thanks for the reply.

I never thought she was a vampire, either. Like Ladypayton, I thought she was just a goth girl he picked up somewhere.

Speaking of that scene; I found a bad quality clip of it on YouTube. Spike goes totally William in it, especially when he says 'Sorry' when he finds out he's hurt her.

Thanks for posting that! I had to go and d/l the entire episode, just so I could watch it again in better quality. You're so right. His eyes were just naked during that scene - very much William's.

:sigh:

I love tender, vulnerable, William-y Spike.

Hmmm. I've never really thought about it. I always thought of her as human, but I can see her being either. On all the scripts I can find, they just call her "Goth Girl" or "Skanky Date". Very evocative. :)

ROFL - Skanky Date. Now that's a flattering description. But you're right, there was no indication she was a vampire. I have no idea why the lack of proof would make me assume it, but there you go. My mind is gone. ;-)

Thanks for the reply! :-)

I remember reading somewhere that Rebecca Rand Kirschner wanted to play her...

I read a great fic about her. Actually it's a season 6-7 rewrite from her POV. And in this fic she's a vampire. But this fic exists only in Russian.

Yup, Rebecca Rand Kirschner lobbied to be Spike's date and she was indeed a human.

I know I'm about to make myself look very dumb by asking this, but ... who is Rebecca Rand Kirschner? ::blush::

She was an official ME writer. She co-wrote several Buffy episodes.

BTW...am beaming bright enough to see from space at the thought of you writing this puppy! You are one of my favorite writers in this verse and I am tickled many colors beyond pink.

I had never seen it said one way or the other - but you probably have an answer by now ... I have always just gone down the line of a Dru lookalike to make Buffy jealous ... and as to vampire - haven't made up my mind!!

I guess from what everyone has said, it was never made clear whether she was or not. But the general consensus seems to be not, since there was no evidence to point otherwise. I think that's the line I'll approach it from, since I don't want readers to think I'm in error.

Of course, that means I have to write a whole new opening to the story. I have got to learn to ask these questions before I start writing.

Thanks for the reply! :-)
