The closer I get to the end of Unboxed, the more I get knowing looks from people, usually accompanied by, "Going to make up for it now, aren't you?"

This is vaguely insulting.

I think perhaps I haven't been clear enough with people, which has ended in people thinking that the whole Project was basically pointless. Well, they probably think that ( Read more... )

My mouth didn't water. Not once! Not even for Johnny Depp!

Actually I suspect that avoiding video has kind of killed my enthusiasm for a lot of stuff I used to love. And made me more determined to avoid things that I don't really, really like. No more going to movies just because everyone else is going, even though I know I'll just sit there and be bored and exasperated the whole time! REVOLT AGAINST THE HOLLYWOOD BLOCKBUSTER!

I think that's the best way to look at things. "I did this, so what else can I do?" There's a lot of potential in just being self-disciplined, really. Nearly every single person I talked to about Unboxed said, "Well, that's interesting. I could never do that." What they all meant was they would never do that, because it's not like not watching things takes a lot of skill. But, yeah, I think if people are unwilling to challenge themselves, they're selling themselves short.

I understand bb. This year I ended up doing something similar to unboxed, although it wasn't really the same thing. I decided I didn't care about TV enough to keep paying for it. It was amazing how little I actually missed it. Do I still keep up with a few favorite shows? yeah. Am I likely to go back to mindlessly watching crap for the sake of watching it? Not likely.

I know, right? Without the TV just being there, you figure out what you really like and what's actually worth spending time on. Good for you!
