"I can read a book to the two of you?" Daniel offered. "Something light. Maybe..." He thought about what books he had here. "Neverending Story?" It had action enough to keep her entertained until she ended up falling asleep. And after she fell asleep...well, it might be a while before he followed suit. Watching over them as they slept was a guilty pleasure of his.

"Whatever, just lay down and keep him from fussing. We're both exhausted. He's cutting another tooth and it was a late night," I told him wearily. I was already comfortable and knew it wouldn't take much of listening to Daniel drone on from some book- any book- to make me fall asleep.

"All right," Daniel said softly. He got the book and slid in next to them, flipping to the beginning of the book. He glanced over at her and then down at him and smiled softly. "Carl Conrad Coreander Old Books. This inscription could be seen on the glass door of a small shop, but naturally this was only the way it looked if you were inside the dimly lit shop, looking out at the street through the plate-glass door."

It wasn't even a sentence into it and already I wasn't interested. I'm sure it was the sort of thing that fascinated Daniel- which meant it was time for me to sleep. Even as I dozed off, I was rubbing William's back. It always made him calm and between that and Daniel's voice, I couldn't imagine he'd be awake for much longer, either.
