Births

Yoga had become rather laughable at this point in our pregnancies. There were times I felt like I'd never bend, and if I did get down, I'd never get back up. Tonks was the same way. Still, we did it because it was a good excuse to gossip and it was some time for her away from her son and from Charlie. And it was time away from Daniel for me. Just ( Read more... )

Drawn by the commotion, Lily stood for a moment and took measure of the situation before slipping neatly into professional mode and moving towards Vala, letting the other girl's practioner take care of her. She only had one pair of hands after all.

"Figured you'd get a headstart, Vala?" she asks, moving around the bed. "How're you doing, hon?"

"Oh, you know," I told Lily, then drew a deep breath through my nose as a pain began in my back and radiated around. "My water broke just after Tonks's did. And I hurt. And I keep hurting. And Daniel isn't here," I listed. Talking through it all kept me from focusing on how the ache grew worse.

"Keeping busy then," said Lily, wryly. "Move around however you feel the need to, Vala, okay? I'll take a look at you in a second." She reaches out and touches the other woman's shoulder gently.

"How are your contractions coming?"

"Steadily," I replied. "Not too fast, but steadily, and getting stronger. And they're in my back, same as the first time." I was afraid I was in for a long, drawn out process. Delivering Adria had been no picnic.

When some of the commotion was over and Tonks and Vala were both gritting their teeth between contractions, Tonks managed to grind out, "Bloody hell, it's a full moon, did you know that? I always thought it was an old wives' tale, about women going into birth..."

"I didn't know that," Devon replied, sounding interested despite not knowing what it had to do with anything. Having stopped into the clinic, he hadn't actually expected to be face with a labor, let alone two, but with Lily tending to Vala, he had to help out.

"Tonks, right?" he asked, pretty sure she was the only other pregnant woman in their charts who was due. "I'm doctor Woodcomb. Call me Devon."

Tonks wasn't sure if he meant that he didn't know about the tale or didn't know about the moon, but she just said, "Keeping track of the lunar cycle got to be kind of a habit. My husband is a werewolf." She'd hesitated between 'is' and 'was' for a moment there, but she knew that she'd at least keep wearing her wedding ring through her pregnancy.

"I've already been through this once, Devon," she reminded him with a bit of a wince. "This is bound to be better, really, so don't worry about having to work too hard."

"Then that's great." First someone tried to drink old vampire blood, and now Devon was helping deliver a half-former-werewolf. Sometimes, life was crazy. Whether it was any crazier than life back in L.A., he still couldn't say.

Probably a little bit crazier here.

"How're your contractions?"
