"Jak? It's Dinah... I hope you're okay. Um, it's Christmas morning, Friday. I've been dreaming you for the last week. So I know you're not safe. I hope you get this, I've been trying to get Portalocity to take me to you, or take me to Fandom, but they won't... I'll be back on the island on Tuesday night, at the latest." A long breath, and then, "Call me back. I know you're talking more now. I just want to hear your voice. For reals."

"I'm hoping tonight's dream was right, and you're back in Fandom and okay, Jak. And I hope you're not going back to that place right away... please give me a call, if you get this? I'll be back there in 48 hours. Let me know if you're going to be there or on your way to New York? I miss you."

So yeah, Dinah was very glad Jak called back, if still worried about him.

"I'm really, really glad I wasn't confused, you are on the island, you are alive. I want to actually talk to you, but I guess it can wait 'til tomorrow. Call if you want to talk, though. Love you."

The irony of that last sentence-but-one didn't hit her 'til after she hung up, then she was facepalming.

So. Yeah. They were broken up. But maybe they could be friends, if she didn't poke at him too hard. And maybe Dinah was still worried, especially after hearing on Radio about what he'd been up to Sunday.

"Hey, Jak. 's me. Just wanted to see if you wanted to hang out, maybe. Karla got me a pretty cool video game for Christmas. Thought you might like it... give me a call. Hope things are going good." A breath. "Bye."

"Yo, Rookie! Just callin' to check in on you, makin' sure you ain't gonna blow up the friggin' island or nothin'." There was a bit of honking in the background that sounded like it could have been caused by a goose. Or maybe a weasel with identity issues. "The boss misses you, kid, though he ain't never gonna admit it, yo. You know what I think he needs? I think he needs you, showin' up in whatever lacy number you can get at that kinky shop in town. That'd make my job a shitload easier, at least. Anyhow, Rookie, take care, okay?"
