Title: The Pentagram Sacrifices

Warnings: Descriptions of graphic violence and death, minor homophobia, and depictions of Neo-paganism/Neo-Druidic movement in a negative light. Major artistic liberties have been taken with both the depiction and organization of The Metropolitan Police as well as places in London.
Summary: Modern AU. When murders with strange Celtic symbols start showing up around London, DI Arthur Pendragon is forced to work with a Professor Merlin Emrys, recently arrived to London and a leading expert on early Welsh writings. As they try to find the serial killer and navigate their growing attraction for one another, Merlin realizes there is more to the case than meets the eye and Arthur comes to terms to finally letting go of his past.
Author's notes: This fic has been a very difficult ride mostly due to RL and majorly unforeseen time constraints. I have no idea what I was thinking when I decided to try a mystery set in a city I've never been to with characters I haven't really written before with one character having a job I only had a general idea about. My original idea had to be shelved since I didn't have much time and I realize that there are some lose ends that probably should've been tied up better. Nonetheless, I've learned a lot, made plenty of mistakes and will try to do much better in the future. One of these days I will finally learn how to show instead of tell.
This fic wouldn't even exist if it were not for the following amazing people:
P, who despite having board exams humored me, pushed me, and believed in me when I almost gave up--she looked over the various drafts, beta'ed a whole bunch, cheerleaded when I didn't think I could do it....thank you dudette! sandrainthesun, my fantastic artist, deserves all the gratitude in the world, who despite the fact that I was generally MIA with RL stuck by me and was understanding. It was and is a constant source of inspiration.

And most of all the_muppet, who gave me more chances than I deserve and just making paperlegends such a fantastic experience for a newbie. While I'm sad this is the last one, thank you so much for all your work these past four years.
Also I should note that many things were a source of inspiration (and you may notice definite nods to some of these) including but not limited to: Lewis, Rivers of London, various Agatha Christie novels, Sherlock Holmes in it's various manifestations, really just British crime dramas in general, Welsh and Celtic mythology, and various Arthurian interpretations. Rhuddlan is an actual town in Northern Wales, home to some early Roman ruins as well as many medieval ruins dating back to the 8th and 13th centuries---I made up the part about early Druid ruins--based on quick research though I don't believe reading anything about early Druid ruins located in the general location.
