Hello my shiny happy people. I'm not going to complain about election results because it makes me too upset. It's okay, we're going to come out stronger for it.
I am here to talk about a different kind of voting. Unless you've only very recently crawled out from under a rock, then you know that I, Leen, am a crazy animal person. I love pretty much all animals ever (except screw you panda bears), but especially dogs.
My doggie rescue, the rescue that's nearest and dearest to my dog hair-covered heart, is in the running for a 25,000$ grant from Pepsi (Snoop Dogg, Richard Speight, ilu both) as part of the Pepsi, Refresh Everything! program. We've been nominated for things like this in the past, but to very little end. This time around, it seems we actually have a shot.
But we need your help!
Voting is open from now until the 30th of June and you can vote for us once per day. There are numerous other charities and amazing programs available for you to vote for as well (though I'd ask you not to vote for anyone else in the 25k$ category as that diminishes our chances) and I'm going to include a list here of some of our favourites in the other categories if you're interested.
As far as I know, voting is open to everyone, but I know for sure you can vote in North America. Would one of my more international friends care to check and see if they can click?
All Heart Pet Rescue is in Powassan, Ontario, just outside of North Bay. All Heart has been rescuing animals (dogs and cats, mainly, but also rabbits, rats, ferrets, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and all the critters you can think of. Even horses!) since early 1997 and is run 100% on donations of time, supplies and money from the public.
All Heart is a no-kill rescue, with no animal ever being put to sleep for space constraints or anything like that.
We're not just Northern Ontario, either. We've taken in animals from all over the province -- Oshawa, Quinte, Toronto, Moosonee, Cochrane -- and even some from Alberta and Nunavut.
I've been involved with All Heart for the better part of 5 years, and I can truly say there is no place on earth I feel more at home. They do amazing work, consistently and without want of praise or recognition.
A click a day from now until the end of June. You have to either sign up to the site the first time or link it with your Facebook account, but after that you only need to click once per day. I'm more than happy to email you the link so you don't have to go searching for it, too. Every day I'll send out a little mailing list with the link that you can support us at and if you're feeling daring, you can even forward the email to the people you know who love animals like we do. Drop me your email here (screened comments!) and I can put you on that list.
We're going to spend the money on existing vet bills, getting some of our dogs spayed/neutered, and set some aside for the emergency vet bills which, I assure you, crop up. We also are going to focus on rebuilding the kennel building which really needs it and putting up some fencing!
The fencing project has been ongoing for about a year and the people who originally agreed to do it at comped pricing quit on us, leaving piles and piles of materials lying around the property to rust and get in our way. The dogs desperately need their play field back, especially with summer right around the corner.
We also really need a storage shed, because the barn we currently keep things in has been around since Christ was a cowboy and is falling apart. We can do so so much with 25,000$, but most of all, we can keep on helping the unwanted, abandoned, often times special needs dogs that we get from all over, get them healthy and rehabilitated, and get them to their forever homes.
I will freak out absolutely. Yeah. But after that, I'm going to make each and everyone one of you that helped us win a super awesome present. Depending on how many of you and how hard I party if we win, it will be a handmade, adorable-animal themed postcard, with a personal thank you and a doodle just for you. I'm not Misha, I can't give away iPhones. Possible other things include love poems, trashy ficlets, stories about puppies, and locks of my hair.
Obviously, it will also enable me to continue spamming you every so often with my rescue stories and pictures.
Absolutely! I made a separate post to save your internet connection.
