Saa~ After my "RussiaxLiet is cannon" post, Kaliningrad got brought up... Previously there had been alot of speculation about the kaliningrad regions, via questions and all that... Originally I kind of laughed about incest children with belarus, and then theres the prussia/germany influence... eventually I had settled on it just being russia sitting between Poland and Lithuania. However~ after I met
goldheart_toris(my Toris)... it came up somehow, and we made it canon LietxRussia kid... and by we, I mean mostly him D': *only added to his points for this post...* ((For those of you who don't know, My Toris is a lithuania I RP with on a regular basis, but not Nation Ask's Lithuania. |D; I generally refer to them seperately as "liet" for NA and Toris for RP.)) It had started out as a joke... but... then quickly became very legitimate. xD
SO... when I told Liet about it, Liet requested I post it HERE rather than my journal. andalsodrewmeahilariousnesspicture.
Really... I'm not posting this for any NationAsk related reason, and I would have kept it to my journal if it wasn't for Liet making me shove it out here orz. SO. don't think anything of it. xD Its just random braincanonblah. I will not be putting it into posts or anything, though I may make mention to things like "how kaliningrad helped russia and lithuanian relations" but that's not me pushing it as an actual character. >__> erm... yeah. /selfconcious D':
Just ignore me.
But without further ado~ The cracksemicanon that is Kaliningrad.
Toris and I named him Luka, by the by.
Kaliningrad is a seaport at the baltic sea, officially a part of Russia, but geographically seperate from the Russian body. Its settled between Poland and Lithuania, and is very valuable to Russia as it is the only port that doesn't freeze over. xD
At one point it was Königsberg, founded in 1255.., which was destroyed in WWII. It was occupied by the soviet army for a year before(1945) it was officially renamed and made a part of Russia in 1946. Though in the meantime, they spelled it Kyonigsberg. xD
The big factor here is that, even while it was officially a Prussian area, it was still occupied by Lithuanians. It was considered a Lithuania Minor because of that, though they got along with the Prussians well enough back then (before WWI). The same went for Klaipeda(This area is directly attached to what would later become Kaliningrad), to which Lithuania was like "Well this is full of lithuanians, so its ours" and annexed it. xD "Lietuvininkai refers to a Western Lithuanian ethnic group, which did not form a nation and inhabited East Prussia." <~So you see, East Prussia (future Kaliningrad) always had Lithuanians XD
Königsberg was bombed in WWII 1944 by the Brittish air attacks, and burned for days... Pretty much everything was destroyed, including the Castle the whole place had been founded with. Old and new, it was all destroyed.
"The historic city center, including Altstadt, Löbenicht and Kneiphof, was completely destroyed: the cathedral, the castle, all the churches of the old city, the old and the new universities and the old shipping quarter were destroyed. " Germany surrendered it in 1945, many residents remained but the german population was expelled between 1945-48. (Leaving essentially only Lithuanians) and then the german population was replaced with Russian. Only the architecture(which according to my references, only a cathedral survived) was German/Prussin anymore, not the people or culture. The rest was rebuilt in soviet style.
The town has been rebuilt in a typical Soviet style and renamed Kaliningrad after Mikhail Kalinin, the President of the Supreme Soviet during many years, an only honorific position. The old city, which had been flattened by British air raids, has been replaced by beautiful public gardens.
When Russia took Kaliningrad, he actually planned to make it a part of the Lithuanian SSR. "According to some accounts from the times of Nikita Khrushchev (1953-1964), the Soviet government had planned to make the rest of the area a part of the Lithuanian SSR immediately after World War II." They had already given Klaipeda back, but Lithuania refused it.
Currently, Kaliningrad is strongly attached to Russia and Lithuania. "The inhabitants are very attached to Moscow and do not want to split off Russia even if the geographical situation of the enclave brings them many disadvantages." But also, the residents get special privlages in visiting Lithuania, for both passing through to russia but also have close ties with Lithuania itself. One of the reasons that the Lithuanian-Russian relations were actually restored after all the damage Russia had done were thanks to having to work together for the sake of Kaliningrad.
After all the bombings, whatever/whomever was there before
is dead. Of course it was a very important place to Prussia, I'm not denying that at all. xD I'm only including the stuff AFTER it became Russian/Lithuanian. Though the thought i do have on this, because it changed so drastically after the war... was that (on the terms of thinking this could be a hetalian entity) there was another little!nation there related to Prussia/Germany, and like Prussia, got "killed"/Deported and something/someone new came up in its place. For Prussia, its now Germany's. And Königsberg got shoved out, Kaliningrad came up in its place.
What was left in the end, was Lithuanian, and when Lithuania refused it was his, Russia took it in. I know after the war Russia also tried to give it to Lithuania (not sure if this is the same event or if he tried twice) but lithuania refused thinking it would tie them to the soviet. So if that WERE another little nation, Russia tried to convince Lithuania it was theirs, Lithuania wanted nothing to do with it because he wanted Ivan out of his life (Independancy damnit! >>) and vwala. It wound up tying them together anyways, though.
SOOO by Hetalia standards... Theres a little nation, whom gets taken in by Russia but it composed of mainly Lithuanians. (The blonde hair could make Prussia think its his too~ ) Russia plans to give it to Lithuania to take care of, while its still part his, but Lithuania says Nowai D8. So russia takes him in.
Little!Kaliningrad is taken care of by Russia, protected, nurtured, much like colonial!America was. I also kind of picture, like Colonial!America, Prussia having the kid around but him running off like with Finland/Sweden xD and in the end going to Russia when he shows up.
Another weird note is that Kaliningrad is huge on Amber, like Lithuania is. (They have an amber museum) Theres just a ton of Lithuanan influence crossed with the Russian... I'm not even to go into those little details~ D:
Kaliningrad seems to love both Russia and Lithuania... even though they've become a fairly stable area, and could have benifits by breaking off they choose not to and would rather remain a part of Russia's house. So preteen Kaliningrad, now, (about the same age as sealand I'd say, just a little older maybe) is like "I love father, why should I leave <3" and therefore like HK and Sealand not a "nation" but could still be an entity. o: He does have the potential to break off, though it probably wouldn't go too smoothly. (Also I note: by this logic, cascadia is totally canon too. America/Canada baby. xDD )
But at the same time he loves Lithuania, visits all the time, and wound up getting his "parents" to work together. (Russia and Lithuania have alot of meetings on "the development of Kaliningrad" xD )
After all this talk with my Toris, I wound up
drawing him... and then I found
this on Himaruya's journal. xD
I had a good laugh.
