I'm not a very big fan of AVSC. Still like the episode [gave us some of the best Dean lines ever], but the Pilot was freakier and set the foundation for the show really, really well. I love that SPN is one of those shows that keeps getting better and better :)
Ahhh, Lazurus Rising vs After School Special...as much as I love me some coach!Dean, I have to give the vote to the season opener.
I'm really surprised "No Rest" hasn't gotten any votes yet. Maybe we're all just a bunch of Sam!girls. ;)
Jensen has also mentioned the Pilot when asked for his favorite episode, because it set the whole series in motion. I remember in their commentary of Phantom Traveler, he started rattling on & on about finding their footing with season 1 and how season 2 would be even better. And I thought "How could it be better than season 1?" Boy, was I (delightfully) surprised!
I didn't think the race between A Very Supernatural Christmas and the Pilot would be so close...especially considering that there's a real frontrunner in the other three tournaments. I mean, I did enjoy AVSC a lot, especially since it was set in Ypsilanti, MI where I live :) Still, the Pilot set the stage for the awesomeness that was to come, and it had the perfect mix of scary, sexy, and silly to snag fans!

I'm quite surprised at AVSC and Pilot, too! But you're surprised AVSC is doing well (it was one of my favorites) and I'm surprised Pilot is doing so well. Hee!
