No, but we don't know what else they've been up to - Ruby was a witch, leave us remember; spells and stuff. Demon was smart-mouthing.
I'm designating this ep as the first "clunker" of the season - whole point of it was to slap Sam down and kill what self-esteem he might have found for himself; kind of like what Dean was doing all through season One.
Seriously, if it wasn't for Jared and Jensen's acting chops (and prime ones they are) you could summarize this episode by having Sam standing in his underwear with elk antlers on his head and a giant silver hammer pounds him into the ground while John Cleese's voice screams "NO! NO! NO! BAD! BAD!"
please tell me I don't have to explain it to you. . .
It's one of the late Graham Chapman skits making fun of the Elks Club - how to spot an Elk. Graham Chapman is standing at a bus stop in his underwear wearing a set of elk antlers. A giant animated hand removes him from a still shot by said antlers while John Cleese explains that it's necessary to isolate the elk and attempt therapy on the pain/pleasure principle.
Still shot Graham, still in underwear and elk antlers is asked "do you want to stop being an Elk? Think carefully!" while an animation of a naked woman behind a "yes" sign flashes on the screen.
"No," says still shot Graham - and down comes the animated silver hammer.
He didn't say he WOULD hunt him, just that he would WANT to, and it made sense to me, except that I think he took it to Gordon territory. Sam's not hurting anyone. And Dean didn't want to hunt Pam, or whatever her name was, the psychic who got her eyes burned out. So it seems the component that plays the straw is working with demon Ruby
( ... )
I was trying to say the straw that broke the camel's back without using the cliché, but after I posted it and read it, it didn't seem easily interpretable. Sorry. :)
I said it in janglyjewels LJ, and I'll say it here: I think Sam deserves a visit from an angel, too. One that will tell him he's not a bad person and encourage him to continue doing good. Just not with demon powers. And then maybe give him cookies. Hee!
How could I top Sam getting cookies from angels. The spoiler I knew was about Uriel. nuj had posted a little blurb at SciFi Chicks about angels causing problems for the Winchesters this season, especially Uriel.
