How many books down would those be? Because these kids are growing up fast between movies!

I'm glad the origins of Narnia will be explained at some point, because to this point there hasn't really been too much covered there. I remember something being mentioned in this last movie that made me believe it was placed sometime in the distant future (something about them being so many of thousands of years old).

I know about Reaper, I was happily surprised to see it on the safe list! The Devil's relationship with Sam is really starting to grow on me like big time. And I had not realized Scrubs had moved to ABC, good on them! :D

Was perusing TV fall pick-up news and saw this Merlin I'm looking forward to that. For one thing, I will watch anything that has anything to do with the Arthurian legend. Also, Anthony Stewart Head is in it, playing Uther. But wait, there's more. It's from the UK and is being produced for the BBC. So could be interesting.

Oooh, I'm so glad you posted, I was just about to email you! More sparkle funnies here. I no longer need to read the books, I have enjoyed them as much as I ever could with those write ups.

Oooooh! Merlin looks like such a treat! So glad you spotted that. And Doctor Constantine, DW's Constant Doctor is also in it as... Gaius?! Who the heck was Gaius in the Arthur verse?

And did you see Showtime is going to air Billy Piper's Secret Diary of a Call Girl? They keep running promos and it looks rather amusing!

Yes, I saw those sparkle funnies. And you're right, no need to read the books. In fact I think I will definitely stay away from the books. Much better to just read the comments.

Don't know who Gaius is. Unknown characters are always being thrown into the Arthurverse. I'm thinking probably some Roman leftover. Also, this is portraying Arthur and Merlin as young men which is odd being as Merlin is usually thought of as being quite a bit older than Arthur so would not have been young men at the same time. Oh well.

I'm all for re-imagining a story. Sometimes it works really well like BSG and other times you get Viva Laughlin. But I'll certainly give this a shot.

::twitching:: It was Susan that the sub-plot romance was with, not Lucy. (And let me take this moment to say I agree with you about the song; it was far too modern for what was going on.

As someone who has read the books (and re-read and re-read and re-read them), the movie was remarkable faithful to the spirit of the story of the book, while truncating and making up entire bits of the actual story of the book. (The Narnians never attack Miraz's castle in the book, for example.) I am amused at your description of the trees and the water god, as well as your describing them in Tolkien-esque terms, since The Chronicles have been paramount in my life, and I found myself comparing the LoTR movies to The Chronicles when I finally did sit down and see the movies!

Finally, if you like Edmund in this movie, wait till you see him in Dawn Treader!

BTW, you haven't said what you think of Reepicheep, the Leader of the Talking Mice.

Oh good grief, I got my names confused. I was sooo dead tired when I posted this, plus the fact that I'm sooo good with names anyway. I'm glad you agree on the song, it was just so jarring to me I was wondering if I was just being too sensitive to it.

I guess my mind automatically sees it through LotR eyes since that is the first major fantasy verse I knew. And as I was talking with friends about my reaction to this movie I decided that I may be too harsh. Most fantasy story lines are going to go in the same structure so I shouldn't be surprised to have things be familiar.

And yes, Edmund was brilliant as both an actor and a character in this movie, I'll be looking forward to it!

OMG, I adored the mouse! I was eyeing up the mice when we hit a pet store on Friday. Alas, none of them knew how to wield a sword. And omg, the tying up of the cat was brilliant!
