So I managed to get home in one healthy piece. The trip went fine apart from the little detail that for the first time my handbaggage was thoroughly searched and perused on the UK side. Nothing in there what I hadn't brought on airplane several times before. And still no idea what they thought they saw, but it took a long while... Still all went fine, so that's okay.
So, good things I saw on my holiday:
- visited Kew Gardens for the first time. Beautiful park with wonderful glass houses in very fine weather with even nicer people.
- first time in Tate Modern. I prefer that to the exhebitions in Tate Britain, probably because the variation in styles of paintings and skulptures is so very large. If you visit Tate Modern, don't forget to look out over the Thames from higher storeys. Nice view, particularly if the sun starts going down.
- nipped into Shakespeare's Globe, but just having a quick look and a coffee, no theatre.
- good food, despite all clichés. But to be fair that did include Indian, French and Japanese cuisine besides the typical highlights of Fish'n'Chips, proper Burgers, pies and sandwiches. Not to forget excellent freshly-baked bread and a nice selection of cheeses.
- seen the big shops and markets, the tourist traps as well as some more elevated venues. The expenses kept within good reason.
- visited book shops with expenses slightly higher :-)
- saw and heard Neil Gaiman read and talk, which was fun. Besides Neil some friend surprisingly showed up as well and made for an even more pleasant evening.
- meeting friends (old and new) and having a good time with some nice (almost too nice) beer
I probably forgot a few things, I'll probably be remined of shortly. :-)
