I can see what you mean about the pixels for Wash/Zoe.
You are using Photoshop right?

If so, for the Mal/Inara one, you might want to use some super cool tools for cropping out a character. Under the Lasso Mask, there is something called a magnetic lasso...this is awesome. Click at the edge of where you want to keep, release the mouse (like don't keep the click down) and then just drag it around the area you want. It will automatically snap to the edge...so long as the difference between your character and the background is similar enough. If it isn't, usually after I have finished outlining and double clicked on my starting point, I go back with the normal lasso, but on additive so that it won't replaced the already masked area, and just fine tune the line of the mask, getting rid of pixels and adding some.

This will smooth you crop lines a bit more...cropping just takes a lot of practice.

Man, I wish I was using Photoshop! Heh - alas, I was too cheap. I have Paint Shop Pro. So no Lasso Mask unfortunately... I'm not sure there's anything comparable. Heh. Thanks for the advice, though! I'll try to find some way to use it. :)
