Also this author doesn't know much about kitsune. There's a certain way they tend to appear and neglecting the cultural nuances about what these fox spirits ARE and how they WORK is typical whitey ~*w e e a b o o*~ bollocks.
For an example of characters who fit into traditional "LO, IT ARE KITSUNE" appearance tropes: Gin Ichimaru of Bleach (his ^_^ face and pale hair ans causing havoc), Chin Yisou of Saiyuki (same there, plus some feminine cues in his speech and body language), and Medicine Seller of Ayakashi and MoNoNoKe (pale hair, he doesn't go ^_^ but he does have facial markings that are fox-y, and his manner of dress mixes male and female signals liberally).
